Audi has showcased an extremely inspiring sports machine prototype called Audi e-bike WÖrthersee at the WÖrthersee Tour in Carinthia, Austria. Along with the technology used in Audi cars, the prototype cycle comes with a combination of an electric drive and muscle power.

Commenting on the Audi e-bike, the Head of Design Mr. Wolfgang Egger said, “As a high-performance e-bike for sports and trick cycling, it features the Audi core competences of design, ultra, e-tron and connect.” On 31st meet of Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda fans at the WÖrthersee Tour, the trial biker Julien Dupont as well as downhill specialist Petra Bernhard will be showcasing their stunts and streetbike skills using the new Audi e-bike WÖrthersee.

The e-bike has been distinctively designed and it clearly flaunts its unique dynamism at a single glance. “When developing the Audi e-bike Wörthersee we drew on motor racing design principles for inspiration,” said Hendrik Schaefers, one of the designers at Concept Design Studio Munich. He further added saying, “The e-bike appears incredibly precise, highly emotional and strictly functional. Indeed, the design effort focused on its function as a sports machine. All design elements are thus firmly aligned to the technical features.”

Audi e-bike is agile in terms of handling due to its low centre of gravity and compact volume. The e-bike incorporates a lithium-ion battery that takes 2.5 hours to get completely charged. The frame, the swinging arm holding back wheel and the 26 inches wheels featuring an “Audi ultra blade” design are made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). The “Audi ultra blade” design along with broad and flat spokes enables improved pedalling power with enhanced transmission.

Boasting homogeneous LED light strips, the e-bike offers the flexibility of lowering the seat for performing stunts or tricks. After performing the stunt, the rider can rise up the seat to its original position at the press of a button. One can set cycling modes and many other functions using the touchscreen on-bike computer. For instance, the smartphone of the cyclist clasps by WLAN to the computer enabling you to deactivate immobilizer, etc.

The cyclist can choose five major cycling modes like pure muscle power (‘Pure’ mode), the electric motor alone (‘eGrip’ mode), pedalling along with electric motor support (‘Pedelec’ mode), adjustable wheelie angles for less skilled bikers or for sporting challenges (‘Power Wheelie’ mode or ‘Balanced Wheelie’ mode) and training purpose for constant performance (‘Training’ mode).

In ‘Pedelec’ mode, the e-bike is capable of running at a speed of 80 kmph. On the other hand, the bike makes top speed of 50 kmph in ‘e-Grip’ mode. On top of this, the e-bike delivers 250 Nm of peak torque to the rear wheel and the electric motor of the bike generates decent output of 2.3 kW.

One of the record breaking features is that the complete bike weighs 11 kg excluding electric components, which equals to 7 kg per horse power. Thus, this Audi e-bike Wörthersee is indeed an innovative and extremely well built bike.
